The Health Benefits of Skin Dry Brushing
What is dry skin brushing?
Dry skin brushing is just what it sounds like brushing your skin with a dry brush. It involves the use of a dry natural stiff bristled bath or shower brush to brush your skin.
How do you do it?
Use a DRY skin brush preferably with a long handle to reach your back. I like to start from the feet and work my way up towards the top of the body near the neck. Apply upward long strokes on the legs and arms, circular strokes on the torso and back. Be careful around the neck, breast, and abdomen since these are more sensitive and delicate areas. It’s best to do this in the mornings for about 10 minutes before you shower as this helps remove the dead skin. Or you can brush each section of the skin for 10 minutes.
What are the health benefits of dry brushing?
According to the Cleveland Clinic, some of the benefits include:
Increase blood circulation
Promote lymph flow/drainage
Stimulates the nervous system therefore you feel more invigorated
In the mornings or anytime before I shower (except evenings because it may be too stimulating), I brush my skin for about 10 minutes, shower with hot water, and use natural body wash or soap. After drying up I like to apply coconut oil mixed with a couple of drops of frankincense and lavender essential oils.
Start with a softer dry brush: eventually you can switch to a firmer brush. Don’t brush over broken skin, cuts, scrapes, lesions, burned skin, sunburns, infected areas, inflammation, cellulitis, or skin cancer.
You should notice softer, healthier, and younger looking skin within a week.
